Truth, Fact, and Fiction: A Virtual Creative Writing Class. In this virtual class for readers and writers, explore the relationship between truth and beauty, by way of considering journalistic truth, artistic truth, fact, research, imagination, and fiction. Is there such a thing as objective or universal truth in literature? What makes a story feel true; what makes the lives of fictional characters matter to readers? How, in masterful writing, does research intersect with invention? In this class, we will work on fictional scenes that shatter the still surfaces of our lives—by being both true and beautiful.
